Wood was born April 22d, 1858, and died September 16th, 1880, being twenty-two years, four months and twenty-four days old. The deceased was married to Mr. __________ Wood November 11, 1879, ten months and five days embracing the period of her married life. Mary professed faith in Jesus and joined the Academy Baptist church in her fourteenth year, and lived a pious and devoted life. Possessed of good health and a strong constitution, she bade fair to live a good old age; but, alas! she died before she had reached the prime of life, reminding us of the truth of the words, "In an hour when ye think not the son of man cometh." A long train of mourners followed her to the Academy cemetery, where her funeral was preached by Rev. A. J. Kelly. She leaves an infant that can never realize the endearing relations of parent and child. Wood, III I was skeptical and questioned him via email about this. I learned that the individual informing me of the correct name was E.H. Wood, III himself. He graciously supplied the following story about the derivation of his name which I am including here and on his father's page. "My grandfather was Erastus Hill Wood Sr. He passed away before I was born. However, the story is that when my father was born, he wanted him to be named after him. Erastus' nickname was "Rat". My grandmother said she would not have a child be called "Rat", so they compromised with E. H. Both my father's and my birth certificate contain initials only." from, E.H. 1098	Died at age 74 years, 11 months, 10 days. ----------------------------- Joe Boyd Wood, 74, of 2099 Spring Circle, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002. A native of Madison County, Mr. Wood was a son of the late George and Mary Brown Wood. He was employed at Comer Motor Co. and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a former chief of the Comer Fire Department and was a member of Woodmen of the World and New Hope Presbyterian Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at New Hope Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Wesley Weaver and Calvin Coile officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Mary Johnson Wood; two daughters, Teresa Stone, Eastman, and Angie Crawford, Tybee Island; two stepsons, Gary Weaver, Hartwell, and Wesley Weaver, Sebastian, Fla.; two stepbrothers, Charlie Parham, Danielsville, and J.T. Parham, Comer; and four grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville. 1099	Died at age 74 years, 11 months, 12 days. ----------------------------- Calhoun Times Aug 1, 1929 Miss Amanda Harris The death of Miss Amanda Harris, who lived with her niece, Mrs. A. C. Malone for a number of years, occurred last week at the home of her sister, Mrs. J. F. Harris, Sunday night, July 21. She was buried in Pleasant Valley cemetery, Monday, the funeral services being conducted by Rev. H. F. Joiner. Miss Harris had reached the advanced age of 78. She was the last survivor of a prominent family of Floyd and Gordon counties. Rome News Tribune July 27, 1929 AGED RESIDENT DIES HERE SATURDAY Miss Amanda Harris, 78, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. J. F. Harris, on the Summerville road at an early hour Saturday night as the result of aparalytic stroke. Miss Harris had been in failing health for a number of years and the stroke of paralysis suffered Friday night proved fatal. She is the last of a family that has been prominent in this section for a number of years and her death leaves a sad spot in the hearts of all who knew her. Funeral services will be held from the Pleasant Valley church at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Rev. H. F. Joyner and Rev. W. M. McKenzie will conduct the services. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. The following nephews will act as pallbearers: F. K. Harris, Atlanta; W. L. Harris, Griffin; H. F. Harris, Rossville; M. G.
