Martha Wood, dau of Daniel. - From a book written by Brent Holcomb of newspaper articles from the Greenville paper articles between 1826-1863. ------------------------------------ On January 10, 1862 William was appointed as Captain of Company C, 22nd South Carolina Infantry. On May 5, 1862 he was dropped from the company. He then enlisted as a Private in the same company and regiment on September 8, 1863 at Columbia, South Carolina. He was captured near Petersburg, Virginia on July 30, 1864 and imprisoned at Point Lookout yankee prison, Maryland on August 5, 1864. He was transferred to Elmira yankee prison, Elmira, New York on August 8, 1864. He was present or accounted for until he was surrendered in accordance with the terms of a Military Convention entered into on April 26, 1865 between General Joseph E. Johnston and General W. T. Sherman. He was paroled at Greensboro, North Carolina on May 1, 1865. This information provided by John T. 1758	Guilford County, NC was formed from Rowan and Orange counties in 1771. Therefore, it is probably that the family had not moved but rather they were included in the new county formation. What is puzzling, howeve, is that subsequent children are shown as beign born in Orange County. 1770	He was mortally wounded in the July 1 action at Gettysburg and captured by the enemy. He died in the hands of the enemy on July 11 or 12, 1863. Both dates are in the official rolls. Penuel suffered a pretty gruesome wound at Gettysburg. Sounds like it was probably grape shot, canister shot, or fragments from an exploding shell. -- source: John T. Nash -------------------------------- Penuel enlisted as a Private in Company I, 5th North Carolina Infantry in Wake County, North Carolina at the age of 16 on July 15, 1862. He was wounded in the testicles, thigh, and shin and captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on July 1, 1863. He was hospitalized at Gettysburg where he died on July 12, 1863. 1771	He, also, served in the Korean War. As a young man Darce worked at the Commerce Fertilizer Company in Commerce, GA. The date was 20 March 1943 which made him at the age of 18. Darce served in the U. S. Army during World War II. (2-4-1943 - 3-1-1965) Darce, wife and daughter Joyce Ann lived in Salzburg, Austria from 1950 - abt 1955 where they had a son Daniel Aaron and Lydia Kathyrn Wood. He studied and graduated from the University of Salzburg, Austria. He retired with over 20 years in the army. He went on to selling life insurance until he bought a cabinet shop in Wrens, GA. Theodore had a fight in the field with another boy. The other boy opened his head with a hoe. They inserted a metal plate during surgery, he recovered only to die later due to Georgia heat. 1782	His obituary reads (as found on www.obitcentral.com): Dr. Louis A. Mennini, distinguished American composer and educator, passed away at his home in Naples on February 22, 2000. Born in Erie, Pa. on November 18, 1920, he attended Oberlin College, the Eastman School of Music and received his Bachelor's Master's and Ph. D. from the Eastman School of the University of Rochester. He was professor of Composition at the Eastman School for 17 years; a founder of the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, N.C. and its first Dean of the School of Music; founder of the D'Angelo School of Music in Erie, Pa. and the founder of the Virginia School of the Arts in Lynchburg, Va. His compositions were critically acclaimed, won many prestigious awards and were performed world-wide by major orchestras and opera companies. A winter visitor to Naples since 1956 and a permanent resident since 1988, he is survived by his wife, Charlene; sons, David and Christopher; grandson and best friend, Jonathon; and granddaughter, Lilliana, all of Naples; and his mother, Amalia of Erie, Pa. He was preceded in death by his son, Jonathan Louis in 1973. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2000 at Naples Memorial Gardens Chapel of Peace. 1786	Howard J. Chandler, 68, of 21 Floyd Road, died April 13, 2002. A native and lifelong resident of Madison County, he was a son of the late Raymond and Mary Adams Chandler. He was a farmer and a member of Union Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. Mr. Chandler was a veteran of the United States Army. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Walter Singletary officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Sue Chandler; sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Lydia Chandler, Stacy and Andrea Chandler; brothers, Troy Chandler and Jim Chandler, all of Danielsville; five grandchildren, Colton Chandler, Lance Chandler, Camille Chandler, Colby Chandler and Hunter Chandler. If you look at Jacob Eberhart's will, you will see he named only two daughters, Catherine Eberhart who married Samuel Patten and Christinah Eberhart who married Jacaob McElreath. If he had a daughter named Margaret who married William Patten, would she not have been named? If she was deceased, would her heirs not have been named? Some researchers claim Samuel Patten & his brothers (William & James) were children of Robert Patten & Charity who died in Burke Co, NC. If anyone has documentation for this, I would surely love to see it.
