1903 John Kerr Wood was given the name "John Kerr" by his father William Penn Wood. This is why that name was chosen:

During the Civil War William Penn Wood was wounded at the Second Battle of Manassas (Bull Run). He was a member of the 22nd North Carolina Infantry. He lie in the woods for 2 weeks with a bullet in his back before being taken to a hospital. The person who saved his life was "John Kerr" so William named his son John Kerr Wood in honor of the man who saved his life.
