After the Civil War, they moved to Lamar County, TX and subsequently to Denton County, TX, where many descendants of Lewis John Lester and James Reed Lester (a brother of Lewis John Lester, and son of Isham) still reside. - Information provided by Paul David Lester in an email dated 23-May-2007 _____________ The 1860 census for the southern subdivision of Tippah MS lists Lewis J. Lester age 30 b 1829, Julia Lester age 18 b 1841 and Thomas B. Lester age 4 b 1855. Note the 1841 birthdate for Julia. Lester’s children were by Julia. One child who shows up in the family bible but not in the 1880 census is Willie, born December 28, 1870 in Texas. He apparently died before 1880. After Julia’s death in 1877 as a result of giving birth to Annie, John Lewis married his third wife Nancy Emeline Harkey in 1878. They had no children. Nancy Emeline died in 1936. - Information provided by Paul David Lester in an email dated 27-May-2007 _____________ | LESTER, Lewis John (I15226)

| 1984 | Lewis John Lester's information (although his actual tombstone is missing) mentions three women as his wives, two of whom I have already accounted for - Julia Moody Lester, who was the second wife and mother of all of Lewis' children except Thomas Benton Lester, Nancy Emeline Harkey, and Mary Lester (presumably the first wife, who was mother of Thomas Benton Lester - no maiden name is given). This is speculation, but I wonder if Mary's maiden name was Benton, accounting for her son Thomas Lester's middle name. | (UNK), Mary (I15303)

I, 16TH Battalion Georgia Cavalry buried at Camp Chase, Ohio at row 15 number 12 grave 480 Was captured near Watkinsville, GA and ulitmately transferred to the union prison at Camp Chase, Ohio where he contracted pnuemonia in prison camp and died. He is buried at the National Cemetery there. A cousin, William W. Lester, of Oglethorpe county is also buried there. From William "Bill" Lester's Family History. We have a picture of William W Lester but, unfortunately, haven't found his tie-in to the famiy yet. [rdwjr]...LEWIS LESTER's first wife EMELINE BURKE dies on 10-APR-1855 according to File 121A.txt but then this same LEWIS LESTER is shown marrying his second wife, Rebecca Jones on 19-Jan-1852. Either one or both dates are incorrect or there was a divorce between LEWIS and his first wife, EMELINE that we are unaware of. __________________ [rdwjr]...unsubstantiated information discoverd on the web at www.itd.nps.gov/soldiers.htm listed the following information about a LEWIS LESTER.
