| 2151 | Note about Willoughby John Calvin Bentley furnished by Juanita Jones - Athens, GA 14-Sep-2007 His full name is Willoughby John Calvin Bentley. In October of 1936 John passed away. He and his wife were living with daughter Zelma. At age 96, Elsie went to live at Russell Nursing Home. She passed away August 17, 1977. If she had lived two more months, she would have been 101. Uncle John, the fifth child of Isaac Henry Bentley and Frances Carolin Davies, was born November 4, 1869 in Walton County, Georgia. He married Elsie Brooks January 23, 1896. They were the parents of eleven children, seven boys and four girls. Three of the boys died in infancy. In 1899, John bought a home in Walton County five miles east of Loganville, Georgia and about fourteen miles west of Winder, Georgia on Highway 81. All the children were born in this home. In 1920, John moved his family to Winder, They lived on South Broad Street, John worked at the Bell Grade Manufacturing Company where he folded overalls. | BENTLEY, Willoughby John Calvin (I4500)

In 1917 many vital records were lost in Alcorn County, MS ____________ Isham and Manassa married ca 1819 in Limestone County, Alabama. Their first two children were born in Limestone County, Alabama. They moved to Giles County, Tennessee where additional children were born, including Lewis John Lester in 1831. They subsequently moved to Mississippi. - Information provided by Paul David Lester in an email dated 23-May-2007 ____________ Event: 57 shares in Union Bank of Miss. Property 1838 Residence: NW corner of 1838 Tippah Co, Miss Note: which is now Benton County and next to Marshall County, Miss and on the Tenn line of Fayette County and Haridman. In 1870 Benton Co. was taken off of Tippah. They lived in Spring Hill 6 miles north of Salem. | 2157 | Notes about Alvin's birth city, His marriage certificate to my Grandmother Marjorie Mundy states that he was born in Athens, Georgia. His death certificate states Macon, Georgia. I don't believe the Macon, Georgia because in 1900 the family he was born into was living in Jackson County, Georgia which is very close to Athens. Also, the information on the marriage certificate was probably provided directly by Alvin or Marjorie. Letter written by my Grandfather, Alvin Pierce White, Sr. to my father, Robert Mundy White on April 26, 1965 Transcribed by Andrew Robert White, Dec 6, 2005 (my notes are added in parenthesis) Dear Robert, Judy + Susan, Hope you will forgive me for not answering your very kind and understanding letter a long time ago. I assure you I did not intend it that way. Your letter told me many things, and gave me many answers to questions I've had in my mind, and heart, for many years.Your work sounds interesting, and I'm sure it will, in the end, be rewarding and, as years go by, become permanently more to your satisfaction and happiness for you and your family. I think you know, by now, that nothing worthwhile comes easy and fast. It takes work and patience to accomplish ____ (?) the goal you set out to reach. I've been trying to do it for years and I didn't reach my goal yet. Maybe, I did not try hard enough, or did not know what goal that I wanted to reach. Even at this late date (age 62), I'm still not sure just what I wanted, or now want.There is this that I am sure of, and I'm eternally gratefull you and Alvin (Jr.) have grown into healthy and strong young men. I know that I had very little to do with it all, but, in spite of all the adverse circumstances, you've made the grade - and you both have young lives of your own to help guide you thru the vast complexities of life, and a very frustrated and confused world. (Grandma White Gifford left him around 1938 or so). There is no doubt in my mind but that you will make the journey that you choose if you but try. In this, I want to wish you all the ultimate.Of course it bothers me not to hear from Alvin (Jr.), but the old adage is: "No news is good news" will have to apply here.Early in March I spent a short time in the hospital with a kidney infection - went back to work and here I am again - this time with a heart condition. However, I'm going home tomorrow and rest for a few weeks, with medication and then another examination, to see if I can go back to work. The doctor and I both believe I will be able to resume where I left off. Believe me, I'm trying.I am enclosing a few pictures, mostly old ones of you kids. Some of which you may have, but since I have two of a kind, I thought you might like to have them. One of your great grandmother on the White side of the family. She was a niece of Gen. R. E. Lee. Her husband took care of his horses in the Civil War. Come to think about it, that was over 100 years ago. When he came back to his farm in Georgia, as a Captain in the Confederate Army, with nothing but the horse under him and some land with which he had no money to operate, he got along however and raised a big family and lived to ripe old age of 97 years. I had the good fortune to know him in his waning years and he told me many stories of the war, which in my opinion, was an unfortunate and vain war. For it not only cost thousands of lives but great devastation of properties and an atmosphere of hatred that, in many of the areas of our country, still exists. I could write a book about its cause, the execution and the aftermath of this most disastrous and most unnecessary war this country ever engaged in.Well nice folks, this is about all from here - except Vera (possibly wife Veronica Loehr) is fine and she has been of untold help in my trying to maintain my health and well being. | 2166 | Notes for John P. COOPER: According to a Betty McKenzies' notes, "John P. Cooper was a farmer and a minister. His son was a Primitive Baptist minister and believed his father was, also, a Primitive Baptist. Joh P. Cooper's Bible he carried during the Civil War is in the possesion of Betty Love McKenzie, his great granddaughter. John P. Cooper was mustered into the service of the Confederate States Army on the 31 day of Aug. 1861, by Captain William Bacon. He was a Private in Co. C, 23rd GA Reg. Floyd Springs Guards. He had served with the regiment in VA for almost two years. He was killed in battle on Aug. 21, 1863, Battery Wagner (Morris Island) South Carolina. Notes: Fact 1: Killed in the Civil War, believed to be in Co. I, 52nd Reg. Dawson Co GA Fact 2: 04 Mar 1862, Listed as private, died in TN in 1862. | 2167 | Notes for Joseph HARRIS: According to a Betty (Myrick) Mize (75) granddaughter of Joseph Franklin Harris: Soon after the Civil War, he was in an argument with a negro. He killed the negro but was acquitted in court. It is believed that he was crossing the river on a ferry and got into an argument. Troutman helped him get away. According to a Kevin Harris' research, Joseph served as a private in the CSA. He was captured and sent to Camp Chase, OH prison. He was injured in the leg. Joseph and his family lived on the road near Pleasant Valley Cem. Rome, Floyd Co, GA. His mother and sister, Amanda, lived with them. MATTIE HARRIS DIES IN HOSPITAL; FUNERAL IS FRIDAY DALTON - Mrs. Mattie Harris, native of Floyd County died at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday in a Dalton hospital. She was born Oct 20, 1879 in Floyd County, and married J. O. Harris Dec. 27, 1903. He died Jan 29, 1955. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Caldwell, Rome; Mrs. Darthula Burkhalter, Lindale; Mrs. Ruby Johnson, Dalton; two sons, Roy V. Harris and Jesse M. Harris, both of Dalton. Eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and hephews also survive. Funeral servicew will be held at Ringgold First Baptist Church, Ringgold at 2:30 pm Friday. Elder A. J. Sims and Elder T. J. Hatch will officiate. INterment will be in Anderson Cemetery. Kenemer Brothers Funeral Home, Dalton, has charge of arrangements. Services were conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Ivie's Chapel with the Rev. Grady Wigley officiating, assisted by Jay Sutton. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Park. Webb, a former Farmer and former buyer with Swift Poultry Co. was born in Banks County July 7, 1922, a son of the late Paul and Wilda Wood Webb. He was a member of the Maysville Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army Air Force and was past Worshipful Master of the Maysville Masonic Lodge where he had received his 25-year membership pin. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ola Merck Webb of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Janice Berryman of Tucson AZ; Mrs. Paulette Egan of Bogart; and Mrs. Jurelle Cobb of Hull; a son, Kenneth Webb of Milledgeville; a brother Billy Webb of Tanner AL; and three sisters, Mrs. Vivian Langford of Pendergrass, Mrs. Miriam Blankenship and Mrs. Julia Savage, both of Maysville. | 2175 | Notes from Jane Lee White letters owned by Rachelle and Peggy Walker: Letter dated 10 July 1870 to son T.D.O. White talks of William Lee being very sick and having the fever. William, his father, has gone to the doctor for him. Letter dated 1 May 1871 mentions that William C. White's two oldest chrildren are attending school. End of Letter Notes. William Lee Andrew White's middle name of Lee was the maiden name of his Grandmother Jane White. He was referred to as Lee. William Lee White was married to someone prior to Maggie Sue Martin. The 1900 census shows William and Maggie being married 7 years and Maggie as the mother of two children. There are 3 other children living in the house that are too old to be Maggie's children but young enough to be William's children from another wife. Also William and Maggie are about 13 years apart in age. In the 1920 census William Lee, Maggie Sue and children Bessie and Theo are living with Lucius B Hawks and Ella White-Hawks. William Lee is listed as father-in-law. That is how I found Ella to be the first daughter of William Lee. According to his daughter, Bessie May's marriage certificate initially filled out on 18 Dec 1923 both William Lee and Maggie White are residents of Guilford, NC at that time. Brother Jessie B. White's obituary states that Jessie was survived by two brothers. One of Monroe, Georgia and one of south Georgia. In 1920 and 1930 census records brother Robert T. White was living in Wilcox County, Georgia. Therefore, if the obituary is accurate, William Lee White must have been living in Monroe, Georgia. Since William's wife Maggie died in May of 1927 and William's obituary from High Point, NC states that he just came back to North Carolina it seems as if the information fits. There is a Lee White, age 65, married to a Rella in Monroe, Walton County, Georgia 1930 census record. I believe that this Lee is in fact the same person. Just a couple streets away in Monroe, Georgia in the 1930 census there is a Lizzie Irvin living with her husband Jim. Lee's obituary below mentions a Mrs. Lizzie Irvin as a daughter from his first marriage. Lee's death certificate from Guilford County, North Carolina has the following information: Parents: William White and Betsy Baxter both born in Georgia Informant: Mr. J J Shaw of Randleman, NC Cause of death: Ruptured Appendix Last seen alive by Doctor on 4 Apr 1931 at 3:26 p.m. Trade: Carpenter Age: 66 days, 4 months, 17 days Burial, Cremation, or Removal: Commerce, GA on 14 Apr 1931 Note about William's birth date: His headstone in the George L. Martin family cemetery has his birth date listed as 6 Jun 1857 but this is not accurate according to his death cerificate. Also, there are too many census records showing Nov 1864 and 1865. Another interesting note..The headstone was not listed in the book "Jackson County, Georgia Cemetery Records, by James A. and Betty Ann Waddell Mathis published in 1980. However, in the CD of Jackson County cemeteries compliled by Don Sailors in 2000 a headstone is present (with inaccurate dates). William Lee White's obituary as found in the The High Point Enterprise, Monday April 13, 1931: William L. White Dies at Hospital, Local Carpenter Passes at Age of 66 After Lengthy Illness-Funeral Held Here Today.William Lee White, 66-year-old carpenter, of this city, died at a local hospital yesteday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock after a lengthy illness. Mr. White first moved to High Point in 1923 from Jackson county, GA., where he was born and reared., but had been away for the past three years until a week or so ago when he returned.He was a member of Centenary Methodist Church, of Macon, GA. Mr. White was twice married, both wives having preceded him to the graves. Children of the first marriage surviving are Mrs. Lizzie Irvin, of Monroe, GA., and Marvin White, of Porterdale, GA., and of the second marriage, H. H. and A. L. White, of Chicago; A. T. It is extremely doubtful that she was born in Salt Lake City, Utah since that city was not founded until 1847 and in 1745 there probably wasn't any major frontiersmen present in this area. His artistic talents and creativity helped to shape the marketing efforts of companies such as Coca Cola, Earthlink, Loweís and Kekalb Medical Center. Mikeís energy and creativity extended into his community involvement. He coached Haygood United Methodist Church Youth Basketball, DHYS Baseball, and was a Pack 17 Cub Scout leader. He was also an active member of Haygood United Methodist Church where he taught Disciple Bible Study. Mikeís hobbies included collecting salt and pepper shakers, playing guitar, and writing music. He was preceded in death by his father, W. L. Dellinger of Athens, GA. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 19 years, Natalie Walton Dellinger; his daughter, Lauren Dellinger; his son, Hayden Dellinger, his mother, Eugenia Dellinger of Watkinsville, GA; his brother, Randy Dellinger of Snellville, GA; his sister, Marie Dellinger Coulter of Watkinsville, GA and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. on Thursday, July 28, 2005 at H. M. Patterson and Son Spring Hill, 1020 Spring St., NW Atlanta. A memorial service will be at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, July 29, 2005 at the Haygood United Methodist Church, 1015 E. Rock Springs Road, Atlanta. Hopkins, Sr. was a Private in Co.D, 3rd Georgia Infantry, CSA (State Guards)in 1863 for 6 mos. He reinlisted in February 1864 with the rank of Corporal. In 1865 he took an Oath of Amnesty. He served two terms as Sheriff of Madison Co., GA (1877-78 and 1881-82). In 1890 Georgia Property Digest for Madison County shows him as a farmer in GMD 383, owner of a 300 acre farm valued at $600. He died in 1897 at the age of 76 and was buried at the Old Danielsville Presbyterian Church, Madison County, GA. His widow, Mary M.
