| 2601 | [1]...LEWIS LESTER, SR (AA) oldest son of JACOB LESTER and his first wife, with family moved to Oglethorpe County Georgia in the early part of the year 1800. [2]...LEWIS LESTER, SR (AA) was listed as a revolutionary war soldier in the land draws of Georgia, but there has been no record found. There were many reasons for being allowed a land draw, rather than military service and he must have qualified for one of those. He drew #746 in Oglethorpe County Georgia. [3]...Oglethorpe County Georgia is a hilly, rural county just east of Athens Clarke County Georgia. The Broad River, which was a major river way at one time, flows near the county line and this was one of the first settled areas of Georgia, after the settlement by Oglethorpe near the ocean. LEWIS LESTER, SR (AA) was on the 1800 census of Oglethorpe County Georgia. He was listed as the following: Four males under 10, one male age 10-16, two males 16-20, one male over 45 and one female age 26-45. Five slaves and a farmer. [4]...LEWIS LESTER & RHOADA LESTER (AA) were listed as among the origional founders of the Beaverdam Primitive Baptist Church in Oglethorpe County Georgia. This Church was founded 20 September 1800. LEWIS and RHOADA are believed to be buried near this Church, but no proof has been found. [1,2,3,4] excerpts from WILLIAM "BILL" L LESTER'S research [5] Lewis Lester was head of a household of six whites and seven blacks in Chesterfield County in 1783.[a] Lewis bought 400 acres on Reedy Creek in Lunenburg County 8 February 1787,[b] and was married to Rhoda — and still residing in Chesterfield County when they deeded 200 acres in Lunenburg County to John Gordon 23 November 1791.[c] Lewis was later in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. [5] reference - from "The Family History of John W. Pritchett" [a] Heads of Families at the First Census 1790, Virginia, p and col 51C [b] Lunenburg County Deed Book 15 p 16 [c] Lunenburg County Deed Book 15 p 350 [6] They are shown in 1800 census living in Captain McCartney's militia district. There were 9 members of his family plus 5 slaves. Also shown in the same district was a Thomas Lester and Alexander Lester, relationships, if any, not known for sure. Alexander believed to be a cousin. [7] He left property, livestock, cash, and 18 slaves to his heirs. Mentioned in his will were his wife, sons Josiah, Lewis Jr., Pleasant, William, Isham, and Jacob and his daughters, Polly Short and Elizabeth Whitsell. [8] After Moving to Oglethorpe Co., Lewis purchased a total of 300 acres on Cloud's Creek in the northern part of the county. This land was bought from 3 different people for a total of $900. He also owned at least 200 acres just across the line into Madison Co. and another 202 1/2 acres in Morgan Co. 40 miles to the south. Pleasant Lester lived on the Madison county property, the gr gr grandfather of Bill Lester. Bill is a dear friend and cousin of Tucker, GA [9] Another son, William, lived on the tract in Morgan Co., GA. [6, 7, 8, 9] from Riffe family site | LESTER, Lewis Sr. (I13273)

| 2615 | [Lester_20050619.FTW] [1]...JACOB LESTER (A) and his first wife are the oldest known ancestors of this family history. They were probably born in Virginia, sometime in the first half of the 1700's. The name of JACOB"S first wife is not known but it is belived that her maiden name was "LEWIS" a name given to LESTER men in each generation since. [1a]...According to the research of John W. Pritchett JACOB LESTER's father is ROBERT LESTER. No other information source has been discovered that will corroborate this fact. However, on Mr. Pritchett's web site, www.virginians.com, he sites the following reference for this fact: "Henrico County, VA Orphan's Court Records 1755-1762 The Virginia Genealogist Vol 34 Page 122. I haven't viewed this source but believe that the information is probably correct. _____________________________________________________________________ [2]...JACOB LESTER (A) lived in Chesterfield County Virginia, this is southwest of Richmond in a rural area. He was on the census of Chesterfield County Virginia in 1783 and 1790. _____________________________________________________________________ [3]...The revolutionary war records of Chesterfield County Virginia show that JACOB LESTER had 33 bushels of corn taken by the United States Army in 1781 and 275 pounds of beef in September 1781. No military record of JACOB LESTER has been found. _____________________________________________________________________ [4]...JACOB LESTER (A2) was married for the second time about 1787 in Chesterfield County Virginia to MARTHA MILES, there were no children. No other information on this marriage at this time. [1,2,3,4] excerpts from WILLIAM "BILL" L LESTER'S research [rdwjr]...There is a conflict in the information for the marriage date of JACOB and MARTHA MILES. File 101A.txt contains note [4] just above this paragraph while File 101B.txt contains the following note similar to [4] "JACOB LESTER (A2) was married for the second time 10 Apr 1805 to MARTHA HAMLETT in Chesterfield Co. Va. there were no children. No other information on this marriage at this time. " This is also in conflict with the information in [5] below which states a marriage date of 1887. This clearly is a typrographical error and I assume it to be 1787 which would match the first file's, 101A.txt, information. Will have to research further. _____________________________________________________________________ [5]...Jacob Lester and Marrtha Miles were married 1887. Ministers returned by Rev John Goods. Wife Martha, sons Lewis Lester & Jeremiah Lester, dau Elizabeth Walthall, dau Ann Clark, dau Mary Clark, gr-son Jacob Lester, gr-dau Mealy Lester. Don't know at this time whitch is right about the marriages. [6] Jacob Lester, a son of Robert Lester, was bound out 2 May 1758.[a] Chesterfield County charged Jacob Lester with one tithable in 1756,[b] and three, including his son Josiah, in 1762. [c] He was head of a household of three whites and six blacks in Chesterfield County in 1783.[d] In 1764 Jacob Lester bought 86 acres in Chesterfield County from Morgan Lester for £40. Tabitha — also signed the deed.[e] Morgan Lester, possibly Jacob’s brother, was head of a household of seven whites in Chesterfield County in 1783.[f] Jacob’s will in Chesterfield County named two sons, three married daughters, and grandchildren, Jacob Lester and Mealy Lester. His wife was then Martha — (will dated 7 Dec. 1793,[g] recorded 13 Oct. 1794[h] ). References for [6] from "The Family History of John W. The " * " shown in front of the File 113A.txt entry directs the reader to the Remarks section of the file where we find the statement "*Died in service of CSA" <20-June-2005> Directions to Marks Hill Cemetery. Taken off the internet "...Thornton, south of Fordyce, also has antiques. Civil War buffs will find Marks' Hill Cemetery on Hwy. 95 North interesting. Located just north of Marks' Hill, a state historic site commemorating a Civil War battle, the cemetery holds Confederate dead killed in the battle." Conclusion: Both entries are likely correct as it appears that Marks Hill is a state historic site in Arkansas and not a town. Therefore, it appears that JOSIAH LESTER was killed at the battle of Marks Hill and buried in Quachita County, AR. ROBERT LEON LESTER, SR date of death is shown in all refernce files as 09-Dec-1965 yet the marriage date to his third wife, EMAYUEL REID HARPER, is shown as 25-Nov-1967 and there were two children of this union born in 1969. However that information is suspect too because the birth of ROBERT CAMERON LESTER is listed as 2-Dec-1969, and his brother's date of birth is listed as 1-Nov-1969. Since none of this makes sense I've elected to leave out ROBERT LEON LESTER's date of death as well as the date of births of his two sons by this union until such time as we can prove the correct dates. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ | LESTER, Robert Leon Sr. (I13707)
