      September 20, 1964 issue of Tar Heel of the Week in the Raleigh, N.C. "News & Observer:

      Rear Adm. Robert B. Ellis, retired, a former chief of staff of the Sixth Fleet
      and of the North Atlantic and Mediterranean Command, died Sunday. He was 81
      years old. Admiral Ellis, a native of Durham, N.C., was a graduate of t
      United States Naval Academy, and in World War II he commanded a squadron
      of destroyers. One of the squadron's ships, the Reuben James, was sunk by a
      German submarine before the United States formally entered the war. Admiral
      Ellis, whose military career spanned 33 years, was named chief of staff of
      the Sixth Fleet in 1952 and was appointed chief of staff of the North Atlantic
      and Mediterranean Command in 1954. - New York Times Archive published July 19, 1984

      This writer believes that RADM Robert B. Ellis was the commanding officer in charge of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba Naval Base for the period around 1958. This theory is based on several articles listing the name RADM Robert Ellis and Robert B. Ellis
